Hey HD riders, I have a 05 stock RK twin 88 and I've noticed that if I come down a mountain and I let the engine hold back the bike my engine light will come on and of course it knocks off my cruise. As I continued down the mountain and I happened to look down and seen my oil light on. And I immediately pulled over and noticed that the bike had shut itself off. I checked my bike. Of course, no oil issues. Because I just changed all 3 holes of oil. started it back up and it ran fine. Any suggestions to why?.
How do you get no speedo when you dump codes through the speedo..
You are saying when you engine brake down hill the bike shuts off?
On several occasions using the engine to hold back the bike coming down a mountain. The engine light will come and it will disengage the cruise control and sometimes the speedo. If I go through the codes the only code I can find is no SP. .
I suspect that message means "no response" What was on the screen right before this.. I seem to remember my 07 EGC doing the same thing with a Tmax EFI system when the speedo was trying to dump codes from the ECM.
I'm not sure exactly what you were doing but that same EGC would have the engine light come on if I clicked the bike into new neutral or held the clutch in, coasting down a hill.. Maybe it popped out of gear? Does it have the stock clutch?
Not your issue but it had a real funny issue where the neutral light would come on when operating at above 6000 feet too.. Replacing the neutral switch fixed that..

If I go. Back to the bike and check the codes. When you bring up the code system, you have the flashing, p, then if I hold the button to bring that code that shows the no small r SP.. If I remember correctly, I was coming down the steep ramp to a stop sign letting the engine hold it back and that's when the engine light popped on. I believe this has happened before. I have a stock clutch. The whole bike is stock.

Did this just only happen once or does it happen every time you do the same ride?

It's happened before but if I remember it's only when I ride a mountain or hill where I use the engine as the brake. I'm going to ride this week and see if using engine ( brake) on any level causes it to bring on the engine light.
