I know I am out of the touring section, but how many of you guy's use your
V-Rods as a sport touring kind Bike ? ? Or would if it had a 90 inch engine that
was turned for more low end torque, and a 7000 RPM redline and a top speed
around 125 or 130 MPH. Should Harley make one with a fairing and saddlebags ? ?
At some point in time air cooling, and water cooled heads will not pass EPA smog
testing. Is a V-Rod type of engine the future for Harley Davidson touring ? ?
I just asking is that the way to go say around 2020.
After owing the Kawasaki Voyager 1700 bagger for just over a year, with it's terrible emissions orientated engine that ran hotter than hot in traffic and had no power until the coolant temperature came down after town riding, I dread to think of a liquid cooled large capacity touring engine, as it will surely suffer the same fate.
I am upset that Harley shelved the electric motor. That surely was the future, like it or not.
There are several V-Rod bagger's around. Look at member "usturbine" V-Rod. I use my V-Rod for touring all the time. There are a lot of Baggers on 1130cc.com. They adapt the Road Glide Fairing and Bat Wing Fairings and bags all the time.
My new wet head Limited does pretty well controlling heat while stopped in traffic. That may be the future for all the twin cams, not the Vrod based engine.
The custom built so called Tour rods have been a round a long time now. The can be some shape rides that work well for some. The VROD engine would need some work to be a real touring bike it lacks the torque. Personally I would like to see them do it
This is an artist concept for a Bagger with a VROD it is not real.
Changing the exhaust cams with another set of intake cams will increase the torque. V-rods are not bored out with a boring bar. The sleeves have to be changed. A lot of people change the crankshaft stroke for more torque and increase the displacement.
There is a 1402cc "Elephant" motor that have about 135-140 hp and 110 ft/lbs of torque normally aspirated.
