First off let me introduce myself. My name is Bryan Elderkin, I have rode for many years on Harleys. You guys have a great forum. I just bought a used 02 vivid black v-rod with 3100 miles. Just broke in. Anyways here is my question. What position do you put your ignition in when you run your v-rod. The on position or do you put it in acc and take the key out? or do you turn it to acc and do the engine check and then turn it back to the on position and then start it. Sorry for the stupid question.
I have a 04 A and I put the key in the "on" position, thenstart it/ride it in this position. When I stop, I put it in theoff position (straight up). I rarely take the key out (lock position)as the bike is alarmed. I only use Acc if I need to use the hazards when away from the bike (like taking a leak off the highway). I also use it periodically to do a full system pre-op test.
Key is in the "on" position, the bike won't even run in the "acc" position (will not start in that position and will not continue to run if the key is switched to that position) If your bike runs in the "acc" position it's different than mine.
b.t.w. The only stupid question is the one that's not asked.
On another note---

Aren't you worried that someone is going to take the key and thereby leave you stranded? Maybe that's just my paranoia talking, I don't trust ANYONE.
I agree and I as well trust no one (sucks doesn't it?). Sorry, I should of said I do pull the key in in unknown or questionable areas.I leaveit in as much as possible cause I can't tell ya how many freaking times I have dropped that li'l sum b----! I also have the remote alarm so the ride isabout as armed as can be I guess.
Thanks Guys for the key help. Believe it or not my stealer said to run it in acc? I didn't think it was right and the manual didn't really say, so I asked here, my new home away from home. Anyways Eazy the tenth didgit is 2.. The bike is gray frame with vivid black skins. I bought it from the dealer for 9,000.00, 3100 miles, never been wrecked as far as they know. It was bought there in 02 and serviced every year andtraded therein 07.
