Any idea why a 2004 V-Rod would be sluggish from 0-15MPH? \\; Buddy bought one. \\; Dealer said it is normal for the V-Rods. \\; I think he was lying. \\;
Is it stock? \\; Try a power commander and map to adjust the AFR some, also launching from a dead stop, I rev it up to 5 K and then let the clutch slip a little. \\; Try the www.1130cc.com forum that is for vrods.
1st gear is very long. \\; Can be easily taken above 40mph. \\; Normally it's not a problem, but the gearing is not great for mountain carving. \\; This bike really should be a six speed in my mind.
I rode it last night. \\; I think he is just a sissy on the throttle. \\; Seemed fine to me. \\; I had to turn my right wrist a lot more than I do on my Sporty, but isn't that the point? \\; Fun bike to ride. \\;

Wow! You are REALLY riding that bike all wrong! Let it wind up. If you are under 4,000 in the canyons you aren't doing your bike any justice at at all. The V-rod doesn't need six gears. I've had a lot of solo riders on the other power cruisers try to catch me in the twisties when I have my wife holding down the back seat. I keep the rpms between 4 and 5 thousand rpm, with occasional trips up to 9k. Let your V-rod get a little air in it's system. Let that reborn VR1000 engine show you its racing heritage. Listen to the engine. You can hear it sing when you get in the upper ranges. Take it out on the interstate, run it up to 80mph in 5th and get used to that sound. That's the sound you want hear in the canyons. It puts you right in the perfect range for right-now acceleration or aggressive engine braking. 15mph is just barely over idle in first gear. I have to ride the clutch in school zones and my bike is stock. It will also do 56mph in first. Some of the older bikes, through 04 I think, will tap on 60mph in first gear in stock configuration.
I agree, you need to be more liberal with the throttle. It is not a sportster, do be afraid to hear the motor scream. I know because I just sold my 1200 sporty.
