I have a CFR with two BigCityThunder baffles for a low roar and a vortex cone to quiet it down a little. Sounds awsome, however does not sound anything like my roadglide potatoe!
I just installed the V-lux pipes and they sound awesome. It's matter of losing a few HP versus great looks and sound. Lot's of people will tell about how much HP you'll lose, blah-blah-blah. When was the last time they were at the strip where is makes an actual difference? IMO its what end of the spectrum you want, function or form.
Yes, you nailed it. If you're after form, bolt on any pipes you want. Who cares how it rides? Losing a few HP at the top is one thing, but losing mid-range torque is simply not worth it for anyone who actually enjoys riding the thing.
How about this, do what YOU want and not what everyone else likes or wants! If you like it DO IT....The he** with what everyone else wants or thinks. Do some pipes, a SE download and RUN IT! You go through life doing what everyone else wants or likes youll be very dissapointed. No matter WHAT you do, someone, somewhere wont like it, but on the other flip of the coin 100' down the street someone will think its the best thing sence folded napkins. Youll always have critics, gripes, and opinions from others.
V-Rod is never going to sound like an airhead, but it don't sound like a Honda either.
I'm running a Rinehart 2 to 1 on mine and I really like it -- sounds great -- sounds nothing like a Honda or a loud sewing machine-- sounds more like its fix'n to tear someone a new *******. Gained hp and tq when I installed it. BUB 7 2 to 1 looks like a nice pipe also, have seen a black one on a DX that looked very nice -- have BUB 7s TDs on my RKC and like them alot.
Be aware that some pipes will drag or scrape on left hand turns -- I have never scraped my Rinehart and my bike is running 12" rear shocks. I had SE 16 ga pipes before I lowered the rear end and they drug quite frequently.
Its a harley...Its supposed to be loud...I could give 2 $hits about the rest of the world..My bike will have sound..And if i lose a few ponies..so be...I wont have a jap sounding bike...
too had to deal with this exhaust delema . I put on / rinehart / bubs/jug huggers . They removed that front bend that i would roast my leg on .That was a must for me . I know, no potateo sound but no honda either. They will rumbel with the best and talk to you when you want them to. Everyone says they sound great and that they didnt know a vrod could sound like that . They clean up around the tire area to .. Looks , funtion and sound a win win for me . I also oppted for the stelth baffels still plenty loud .. Get what looks good to you map it if needed you will have plenty of power left over lol for a quick leap to 120 if you want . good luck !!!ps you can see and hear some on youtube .
