I have owned a Low Rider, Wide Glide, Deluxe, Night Train (which I still have), and an Ultra Classic. Went to dealer demos last week and rode a new V-Rod Muscle. I had never ridden any model VSRC before so I was quite impressed with the ride. So much in fact that I am leaving in a few hours to pick up my new 08 NRS. As soon as I got off the Muscle, I knew that I would be selling the Ultra. Wish I had enough money to afford 3 bikes but you have to draw a line somewhere.

I got a V-rod first (B-day present from my wife). Then, I JUST got (5 days ago) a Heritage. I think the other way around would have been better. I have been on bikes since I was 9 (now 49 for one more day). The Heritage has the most different feel of all. The V-rod is laid back and forward controls, so much different than my passion -dirt bike and the sport bikes I have owned. HOWEVER, straight line performance is VERY VERY worthy. I REALLY like my V-rod.

You really need BOTH!

Iam going straight to the dealer this weekend , lets see if we can come up with a reasonable trade option for a new DX.

and just for preparing myself :
What would be the difference between the NRS and the normal VRod in terms of handling ? ?
I know that in both there are visual differences in terms of look (Dark out/more chrome, paints etc)

I think the 09 models have also a bigger gas tank OR ?

Thanks guys ,
John

My tank is 3.7. The new V-rods have 5.0, which is a MAJOR + Otherwise, I know of no difference (other than appearance) between base & NRS.

Suggestion: if you are patient (an I am NOT). Sell your bike via craigslist or some other medium, and buy a used V-rod. I paid roughly 70% of cost new for my V-rod. It was 4 years old with 7600 miles and had the stage 1 already performed, which included the screaming eagle pipes. It also had BRAND new tires, and a few minor accessories. However, I am tight with my $$ and only buy a new bike if I am going to race it.

I have had a Vrod for two years and am trading it in for a Street Glide very soon. The Vrod is a great bike but doesn't have the comfort I am looking for on longer rides. I also dislike the high frequency vibes from the higher rpms at cruise.

So it's all a personal choice but you should rent one for a few days and see how comfortable you are after a hundred miles or so.

Ride safe!

The DX is the lowest of all the V-rods. 07 and up all have 5 gallon tanks. 08 and up is the 1250 engine with 5 more ponies and 5 more ft/lbs of torque and roughly 50 pounds more weight than the 06 and down. The HD website gives all the V-rods the same lean angle, except the R, which was discontinued after 07. The R had 6" ground clearance. The D had 5.1" until 08 when for some unexplained reason it lost .2" on the HD website. All the rest are 4.9" except the DX at 4.1" of ground clerance. The DX also has drag bars and forward controls, a seating position I can't tolerate. I find my 06 D very comfortable, but on the really long days it would be nice if the the bars were up and back a little more. Then again I like the twisties and the D bars and mid controls make the bike great for yankin-n-bankin, even with my wife on the back. I guess I just have the right bike for me.

I'm snooping around the V-Rod section cause I think it would be a kick to get a VRod. There's some pretty good deals on older models, and for riding the twisties I think they'd be great. But if I can only have one, my RoadKing UltraGlide is what I'll keep.

I love the sound that comes out of the airbox at 80mph. It's one of those sounds that says all is right in your world.
