my uncle bought a v-rod from a insurance company that was wrecked. he put the bike back together and it looks really good but he cant start it. it has a alarm system on it factory and the past owner put in a code and now that the bike has changed hands, he cant get it to start unless he has that code. he has no way of getting it so is there another way to get past the system or maybe reset a new code...thanks for any help

If it has an alarm, it should have come with a key fob. If it does have a fob, just change the battery and you should be good to go.
If the bike has an alarm, and no fob, and the code was set by the previous owner, then you're stuck with buying a new TSSM (Turn Signal/Security Module) and mating it to the ECM. There is no way to force the code out of the TSSM without having the code or the fob that is already programmed to the TSSM.
Year of the bike would be good but what you have is a hands-free (HFSSM) meaning the fob has to be in the proximity of the bike to start or access the codes. If it is not starting when the fob is close to the bike, then the fob is not operating correctly and a dealership will have to password learn it to the TSSM for you and reset the code or resynch the fob using the digital tech. Unhooking the battery, ECM, or TSSM or replacing any of these components will have no effect and will make it worse (besides p-ing your money away) because you'll end up having to reset those at the dealer, too.
Sorry had to cut short last one to take kiddies to school: the reason you need to have the FOB reset is you can't manually enter the password unless you know the code (could try all "1's" cuz sometimes people get lazy with entering new code and don't change the factory setting) and you can't change it without it (otherwise anyone could come up and ride away). Could be dead fob battery also? Try a swap & if doesn't work take to dealer for the security set-up. PITA, ain't it? At least you don't have a siren going off everytime, do you? Good luck.
the bike is a 07 and when he bought the bike he didnt get the key or the fob. he went to the dealer and they gave him a new key and fob.. will he need to reprogram the fob to the ecm and would he still need the old pass word..he told me the fellow that had the bike wrecked it and passed away and he ran across a frien that worked at a insurance company and told him about the bike so my uncle bought it but never got a key to the bike at that time...
1: Is there a blinking key-shaped light on the speedo display? Do the turn signals flash when you try to start the bike or even move it? If YES=security is self-arming. If NO=security system is not armed and starting problem lies elsewhere. Perform WOW test to retrieve DTC's. Also get part numbers for the ECM, TSM/TSSM, and IM and write down all. Clear the codes and try to start the bike. Retrieve any codes again and these will be your current trouble codes. 2: Do the turn signals work? YES=TSM/TSSM is functioning. NO=TSM/TSSM is faulty. (This is a "quick check" of TSSM operation. The FOB & security system is part of the TSSM, not ECM, but will cause running/starting problems. Security system turns off the fuel pump when set off). 3: Did they "give him a key & FOB" or did they set-up the bike security system WITH the FOB? I'm thinking NO they didn't set it up if the bike is cranking but not starting and it's a security related issue. If they didn't set up the bike, I also have doubts that you have a TSSM (for hands-free FOB) or a TSM (standard button-type FOB) and you may have purchased the wrong FOB. You can also remove the passenger pillion and get the part number of the TSM/TSSM and call the dealer to find out which you have (unless of course it's labelled!). In any case, if you do not the correct (or functioning) FOB, you cannot access the PIN change option to change the PIN; if you do not have the correct code, you can't enter the manual PIN. But I can write a hundred of these msg.s without getting close to what the real problem is. Some things are DIY and this is not one of them without proper FOB or code. Dealer can retrieve or set a new one of your choice and set the FOB to the bike, if it is a security related issue.
A little more, if not redundant information, but I looked it up at school and verified all the above information:
-The FOB password learn (synch) must be done by the dealer using the digital technician on both a hands-free AND regular push-button FOB.
-The learned HF Fob must be present to change the manual PIN number.
-The battery can be changed out by prying the FOB apart carefully.
-Unplugging the battery or pulling the maxi-fuse will have no effect on resetting the code or making it run as is.
-Changing the TSSM will accomplish nothing (unless it is faulty) because you will still have to have dealer set-up the security system + you'll be out for the cost of a new TSSM that was not necessary.
-I WAS incorrect in the manual PIN entry (knew it!) if FOB is not operating or present. You must turn the run/stop switch to "stop" position, turn the ignition switch on and then hold both the turn signal switches in until you get a confirmation blinking. The speedo will not display the number but you enter the PIN by depressing the left turn signal for the number, then cycling through the five digit code with the right to the next digit in line. The blinkers will give you "confirmation flashes" when number was successfully entered. I would try all ones first, then twos, etc. (factory setting is all ones)! If the code was not changed by the prior owner, it may work.
The part numbers for the TSM/TSSM/FOBS are as follows:
-2007: 68921-07 for the TSSM, 68926-07 for the HF FOB. This is for a hands-free security system.
-2006: 68920-01C for the TSM, 68926-00 for the push-button FOB. This is for the push-button type.
If you have the incorrect FOB or TSSM/TSM, they will not work; HF is HF and push-button is for push-button.
Bottom line is if this is a security system problem, the dealer will have to set-it up for you.
well he is in florida and im in ky. so im doing all my talking with him by phone so its hard to see what the bike is doing.. i do know its a hands free fob. i will reread your posts and try to get a feel for what your saying and call him and see if i can figure what the bike is doing.. he did say the blinkers would fash when he trys to start it. he also told me that he put a tssm from another bike on it and it did start but it died right after it started.. i will double check but im thinking he told me that when he turns the ingnition on, he can hear the fuel pump but i will try to comfirm that..the dealer in daytona told him he needed a new tssm to get it to run but he thinks its just a password setup thing.. thanks for all your help and i'll try to pass along to him what you have been saying and maybe we can get to the bottom of this....
