I'm pretty new to this forum, but I need some help.
I currently have a 08 VRSCAW, I love it but i have been eyeing up a 09 Night train for some time. I want the traditional Harley, and the train is my favorite.
But I have come to love the V's handling and straight line speed.
Can you guys (and girls) advise on what's best to do? do I get the train or keep the V.
Let's see, to get the same power you would have to spend "ALOT" of money on upgrades, and it's air cooled. they are nice but I would never trade, like trading in your Corvette for a Pt crusier.
I would go for a touring bike. I have a fxstc and recently bought a road king. I think if you dont go all the way you will be wanting a tour bike not long after you get the night train. JMO
You may be a little disappointed. The V-ROD is a very sophisticated and fast bike compared to traditional H-D's. I love the traditional bike but I really enjoyed the V-ROD muscle that I rode. Now one of each....

Actually a well built 95" will be neck and neck with a stock V Rod. Mine is! Everytime I run mine against my brothers 08 DX he just slightly beats me. If I get the jump, he doesnt catch me till about 85-90 and he isnt going by me very fast at all. His has a tuner and Rienhart 2-1.
My advice would be to get an older train and keep the rod. Find a cheep used one and enjoy! 99-02 engines have a better lower end from the factory.
Demo the Night Train. This model is slated to go out of production for '10, the dealers know it and you might find a deal of you really like it. You'll take a bath up to the neck on your V.
Personally, I'd keep the V and ride the bejeezuz out of it. Change the bars, yada, yada.

This is the smartest way to go right here. You're not going to have crap on the resale of the V so wait until you can afford a second bike and keep the V. Then ride them till your heart busts from joy. What you will notice is you ride one more than the other and you may eventually get rid of one. At least at that time you will know which one you will like better. No telling it may actually be the V.
If you are a traditionalist that is awesome. I am a huge fan of almost all HD's. I am about to get a touring bike to sit beside the V and the girls customized nightster in the Garage. However... i do suggest this. Consider modifying your V if it is stock. You will be amazed at the change of heart you may have about it. If you like atttention i promise you will get it. I park my V beside 30k choppers and people will comment on my V. Every stop light i go to, when i pull into the gas station, People want to talk about it. It's truly crazy. I promise, it attracts attention. On top of that it rides good. (Just time for some bags and long trips with the lady holding on)
So only you will know if you are ready for the change but go test drive the night train first. I will say it is one of the meanest loking bikes HD puts out (When i bought this V it was actually between the V and a worked up Night Train. Thought i could do more stuff with the V honestly)
Test ride the Night Train before you buy it. I jonesed for one for a while and decided to get one as a second bike when I came across what I thought was a good price for a leftover '07. After the test ride I decided I didn't like the steering. Felt like the front wheel wanted to flop over. Ended up with a new '08 Fat Bob after a test ride. Even paid less for the new bike and it is awesome. In my book - much better than the Night Train. Only wish I had known about the Muscle. Would have waited.
