Default A Night Rod Sleeping Through the Day....

Purchased a '07 Night Rod Special last year off of Craigslist last year, the thing is bitching. anyway, i parked it for the winter and haven't seen it till this weekend.

Needless to say, it wouldn't start up. I tried recharging the battery myself by plugging it in via an aftermarket battery lead with a pignose. While it did get my headlight to brighten up, my ignition was super weak.

So, i DROVE (in my dirty celica) down to autozone to get a new battery. they instead took my harley battery and recharged it for me. they called me up and told me that the battery took the charge. then i took it home, threw it back in and ...

NOTHING!! I'm pissed at this point. I mean, you guys know how much crap you have to dredge though just to get the battery out of it's slot.

Presently, it's in my parents garage just sitting there. Now is it time to throw in the towel and pay someone to come out and hook this thing up?

Also, i've noticed that the keyless ignition isn't recognized at all in the start-up process of the bike. As in, when you start the bike up by turning the ignition switch, the bike would usually beep. I've realized that 'beep' anin't happening in the startup process anymore.

Ideas anyone?

Rob

i cant say as I am new to the night rod, but my advice would be call a local dealership and talk to a tech. usually if its something small or easily overlooked, they will give you some quick advice. either you would know how to get it running or know that you couldnt, but it would spare you a needless fee.

if your bike has the security system, change the fob battery and try again...advise is to buy a battery tender...before next winter...

This is the first vehicle of any kind I've had with an AGM battery. The one thing I can tell you is you killed it and a new one is $95.

Don't worry, a couple of times of digging around under the airbox and you get fast at it. I do loosen the three bolts on the stacks and drop big fat rubber bands on them before I lift out the stacks. Being a former Cobra helicopter mech, I have a serious aversion to dropping things "inside". On a Snake it could take a couple of days to recover a tiny bolt.

Default Getting this girl on her feet ain't easy...

so i broke down, about two weeks ago now, and picked up my $135 battery. installed it and it started up. That was two weeks ago. Now I'm having the same problem all over again.

Did I just "press the reset button on my problem" by letting it sit for the 2 weeks? will a push start get it rolling?...ok back to the problem.

My bike will not recognize my keyless ignition, so everytime i move the bike now, the alarm will sound and won't quit till it times out. so not only will it not start, when i move it i'll set off the alarm , making a racket. so now i have the alarm unplugged while it sits. now, instead of making a bunch of noise, my speedo panel goes nuts. Turning the ignition switch the the IGN position and hitting my handle's ignition button gives no results, just sits.

Come on, help me and finally give me a reason to buy california mc insurance.

The Facts:
-Bike won't recognize my keyless ignition, forcing my alarm to sound when moved.
-Bike has a new Battery
-Did start up two weeks ago
-It's been hooked up to a tender (a good one, i made sure at the HD shop)

...it sounds like your security fob is dead/has a low battery...

Someone suggested you put a new battery in it... have you done that? We're talking a couple $$$s... that sounds like your problem.

i've been re-reading all of the help all of you have been providing this morning. The one new thing i've noticed is SpicOfTheDevil's comment on changing the FOB battery and Herr Monk's reiteration of it.

I had no idea that thing has a battery.... to be honest, i've never noticed a screw (where you can open the unit) on it . Will check tonight on it. anyone have a part number on that battery?

DesertSpeed mentioned an AGM battery....is this the same thing guys?

Also i have come across another thread on this somewhere in hdforums.com, had some really good advice in it about this very topic and by one particular user. will try to provide a link...

You just kind of pry the fob open at the seams. There's no screw.

It uses a standard watch (or LED headland) type battery. Nothing special.
