Welcome aboard.
Finding parts is a problem but there are ways to find almost anything and sometimes some surprises along the way. About six years ago I started a restoration of a 1976 SS-250 Aermacchi Harley-Davidson that I also acqured as a "deal" on eBay only to learn after getting it shipped it was really a POS. I debated just scrapping the bike as I didn't have the energy to even piece it out but insanity prevailed so, along with a close friend, I spent almost five years and way too much money to do a complete restoration.
While some can say I spent way too much on the restoration it really was worth it. The motorcycle won first in class in the only two judged competitions it was in and received a lot of interest by older riders that remembered them from the "days" when Harley-Davidson produced these motorcycles. For many younger Harley owners they'd never even heard of them much less seen one. While it might have "cost too much" in the opinions of some I believe that saving the history was well worth the price. Last year the motorcycle was sold to a museum so that it will be enjoyed by tens of thousands of visitors every year into the future.
Of interest to you there is a Yahoo group dedicated to the Aermacchi Harley-Davidsons that was able to provide leads for me to find parts. I even found a brand new, still in the bag, complete exhaust system for mine but it did cost a small fortune to purchase. Of course, as the old saying goes, "nothing is better than new" when it comes to a restoration so I paid for it with a smile.
