I ride a 2004 softail standard, at the end of 2 yrs. it has started to cut out on me when I'm riding.Engine will shut down and all electrical goes out. I can pull over to the side and let it sit for a few minutes andstart it back up.The first time it happened I was my way to the dealership for service and a final look over before warrenty was out. I was about 2 days over. They said there was no codes and could not replicate the problem, it was a short and would not be able to locate it. This has happened a few times since, the only mods I could think of that could cause this is the dealership put a battery tender in and a bike shop cut my control wires to put them thru my handle bars. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Howdy, welcome to the forum. If you still have your owner's manual that came with your bike, they have a section towards the back about troubleshooting problems with your bike. Hope this helps, good luck.
Welcome from Salem, Oregon - Since you registered the problem with the dealer before your warranty was up, take it back to them and have it fixed under the warranty. If they didn't fix the problem the forst time, they should still have to complete the warrantyrepairs.
I had a similar problem once....ended up just being loose battery terminal connections???!?!?!?!
I assume that service had checked that but, you never know!! Look at the wiring coming off the starter...sometimes those rub so much the shielding comes off and/or is pinched causing an random short.
Hey Phil....I have the same problem on my 03 Road Glide. New circuit breaker and a few other tricks has not made the problem go away. One post similar to ours suggested a bad crimp that causes high resistance/heat causing circuit breaker to trip till it cools off. One guy made the correction and he seems convinced it solved his problem. I am new to the forum as well. I can go back and find this post and send it to you. Stay in touch till you find the solution....I would be interested to hear of your solution.
Welcome to the forums. Might try posting this problem in either electrical forum or your specific model forum. Might also help to get some answers. Good luck.
