Okiehoma
Last month I went to a Harley dealer and rode off the lot with a new Iron 883. I was actually very nervous about laying the thing down and that somewhat clouded my purchasing experience, not to mention I could not do a test ride without an M endorsement.
I tried to hide my nervousness from the sales person so they would not get skittish about letting me ride off with one. I have great credit so they were actually trying to get me up to a larger model. I probably should have gone bigger but I was too worried about wrecking the thing in the parking lot. As it turns out though I am happy with the Iron in my situation because I live in a condo and don't have a garage. There is an extra little slot in front of my parking space where I can cover, lock, and block it in with my car. The size is just right for that. Also, I really do like the look of the Iron and I can see keeping it and doing a lot of modifications in the future for city riding and eventually getting a touring bike when I have a house and garage.
I don't recommend others go and ride off the lot without any experience. I am a truck driver and pretty much loner and didn't want to take the time of going through all the learning stuff. And being a truck driver many years I have a lot of road and traffic predictability experience.
I did a couple of laps in the lot then rode in the alley behind a neighboring Lowes. Once I was comfortable enough, rode it home. Then went wild and got out on the Interstate and took it up to 70. Wow, I didn't think I would enjoy this so much. I had an appointment to get my endorsement the last time I was home but it rained. Plan to get it next home time.
Thanks for listening. I don't really know many folk and have wanted to share this story. I look forward to learning a lot here in the forums.
