Hello All,
Just a quick intro on myself. I am a 34 year old dude who received my motorcycle license last spring & bought an 04 vstar 1100. My wife & I had a fantastic summer traveling to different places. We even got into the habit of meeting @ a local hotspot on Sunday mornings where all kinds of bikes & bikers congregated. For many years now I have wanted a Harley, in particular a Fat Boy (maybe that’s why I started with the vstar). I did a lot of research on the vstar via the internet & especially forums like this one. I will be cramming as much info & feedback for months before I decide on what model & year I will be targeting. For a quick first question how long has HD been making bikes that are fuel injected? Secondly (this one is probably matter of opinion) should I bee looking for a Fat boy, Heritage, Road King, etc that is carbureted or fuel injected? Pro's & con's?

Any & all info would be greatly appreciated

Welcome! Look at the Carb or FI thread in general chat for some opinions. Personally I am very happy with EFI, and I own both. As far as bikes, rent a few before deciding. I love the Fat Boy, but would buy a Road King if you do alot of two up riding. I own a FLHTCUI, which is the best for long cruises, but it's a big jump from the 1100 in style and cost.

Hello,

I agree with what Joe Scout told you...RK is going to be better for two up...

Do a Search for "Fuel Injected" and "FI" in the Search function above. You'll find tons of information on it.

Good luck with your search.

I have to get use to knowing what FLHxxxx means quickly instead of "fat boy" , "road king", etc. Also I know what I'm in for when price is concerned.

Hennyhog,

This is a great question, welcome to the world of Harley Davidson Alphabet soup. Check out this thread:

Model Designations

The short answer to your question on Joe Scout's bike is that he has an FLHTUCI which stand for (drum roll please!)

FL - Can't remember
H - Heavy Duty
T - Touring
UC - Ultra Classic
I - Fuel injected

He has a fuel injected Ultra Classic.

I'm going to go [sm=icon_guiness.gif]!

Don't get fooled, the price isn't the price. Once you get the bike you will fall into the addiction of HD. New parts and accesories are the norm not the exception. Make sure you get the bike you want, because it really sucks if you get something you can "afford" and find out that it's really not set up for the type of riding you want to do. Sometimes that extra year of financing is the best thing that you can do.

Scout,
I totaly agree with what you are saying. I bought a vstar which I really like....but do not love. After installing after market pipes, carb kit, nice leather bags, etc.......its till not an HD. Now I have to decide, do I trade it in, or sell it on ebay/want ads? Also when to do it (now or spring)?

Welcome to the forum. As for your questions. Selling your bike, wait till the spring, youll get more money for it then. Think about the type of riding you enjoy most, it will best point you in the direction of which bike to get. If all you do is bar hopping, or local watering holes, then the fat boy will do you nicely. If you like to go a bit farther, then a heritage with bags and windshield standard will do you well. However if you find that you are eat up with this hobby, and that your true happiness is found by placing down miles and watching routine life fade in the rear view then you should consider a touring bike, such as the Roadking. Good luck on your decision and enjoy the ride.
