Default Two questions for experienced riders

I am new to Harley's. I have hadGoldwings and a VTX. Just bought a 2005 Softtail Classic with Scream'n Eagle pipes and some other goodies. This is a very sweet ride. Great sound, stable and good handling. A little hot between the legs!! I think I'm going to put the heat deflectors on it.

Question #1: I'm going to be riding with my wife who would like to communicate. Any advice on a bike-to-bike comm system? Tried the Autocomm system before and it is bulky, doesn't work well and bad sound quality. Don't really want to put a CB on it.

Secondly, this "jiffy" stand is very different from other bikes. When it moves, I get nervous. Leaning the bike to the right to get it up and down is also new. I don't means to insult the HD gods, but... is this thing secure? Are there any aftermarket "normal" kick stands out there? OR, should I just shut up and get used to it!!

Thanks folks and glad to be among the hogs.

Howdy Jim, welcome to the forum. About the communication thing, I can't help ya on that one because I ride solo. I've only had two bikes in my life and I'm not an expert on jiffy stands, but I have had my Harley for little over 2 years and I haven't had any problems with it. I had a 80 Suzuki 1000, that had a different kickstand so I know where you are coming from. Maybe somebody with a little more experience will be able to help you out. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Hi Jim,

One of the big plusses of riding can be spending time with the wife and NOT communicating. Stick to YELLING vs. a comm system and maybe she'll get the hint. Have the conversations later at the pit stop.

Chatterbox works well, a bit pricey, but you can also listen to music, etc.

I agree about the side stand...not confidence inspiring like the sportbikes...when you set it down, lean a bit to the rear and pull the bars a bit. And be careful moring it around, the stand does come up easily compared to other bikes. But it's felt that way on every harley I have owned or been on...no problems once it's down.

Chatterbox has a helmet to helmet intercom system, that I think goes for about $260.00. It is NOT wireless....that is upwards of 200 per helmet.

I think in time you will learn to like the jiffy stands . I know what your saying about bike kind of flops into the stand, but it is just the nature of the beast . I personaly think it is better than the rigid ones on most metric bike . And oh ya ! Welcome to the forum !

Had the same feeling with the stand at first, you'll get used to it.
