2009 Super Glide Custom FXDCI warm start issues
Greetings to you all. I'm new to the forum and wanted to poke around for some suggestions. I've read tons of similar issues being diagnosed but none seem to match my particular issue. i have an 09 FXDC-I with the Fuelpak 3. I recently stripped it to the bone for complete frame powdercoat and customization. Pulled the heads and jugs to black out and polish the fins, all new gaskets and orings. Everything went back together and started back up without issue. However, once I'd ride it and stop, it wouldn't want to start back up and would chug and backfire through the air intake. I can eventually get it started (very rough start) and it will run rough for a while and at least get me back home. I've checked for leaky intake gaskets, checked plugs, battery charge level, exhaust nut tightness, and a few other things. It starts up like a champ cold, but after a ride or even a couple minutes of idling in the driveway, it will not want to start back up again. Does the chugging and backfiring with white smoke from the intake. I've found I can hold the start button and then turn the ignition switch on (kinda backwards i know), and it will generally start up. A little rough mind you but it comes around pretty quickly. I've managed to convince myself it might be a crank position sensor issue from what I've read??? I just don't understand how it can run perfectly and then not want to start once it's warmed up. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thank you

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I tell a lot of new comers to the forum to get: Factory Service manual and the Parts manual. Get a three ring binder and record all your maintenance, repairs, accessories, etc. This will be a great reminder of what was done when. And great material to pass along to the new owner should you sell and upgrade. Also know how large your fuel tank is, and record your fuel usage. I have an app called Simply Auto that I record all my fuel used. I use the odometer and use the fuel gage as reference only. I reset the odometer to zero on fill ups, and I know I can safely get 200 miles on a tank on around town riding.
Good Luck!!
Just in case you have not done both of these two important items!
