I lived in Alaska for 32-years before heading South in 1993. I coundn't take the cold any longer, but still think Alaska is the best state in the Union. Lived in Wasilla on the Little Susitna river my last three years there. I can remember in the early days when we would go to big lake when it froze over and set up 55-gallon drums as pilons and build fires in them and have races with our v-twins set up with an outrigger and sack of sand for ballast. Some of us would put screws into our tires for added traction, but like I said, it was the early days (1961). We use to ride our bikes on the road as soon as we could see a patch of asphault or dirt appearing out of the ice or snow. Before they put the freeway in to Palmer, it would be quite the experience driving the old twisty road with moose jumping out on occasion. Yes, I miss Alaska, just can't live there anymore.
being new here, I've check out alot of the posts, are there any other AK riders here? I know that I live in the largest state, but we have the second smallest population. not sure, but I think our riding pop. is higher than average though. Hopin to meat more of 'em out there![8D]
I was stationed in Ketchikan from 1993 to 1998 with the Coast Guard. I hated to leave but I promoted myself out of a job.
