Although I can't compete this year I am following the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge and all my fellow Challengers. It starts today and for anyone that wants to follow them you can go to this link.
and click on the "All Riders" in the drop down box to watch everybody. My close friend and former employer (Mike) is #67 if anyone is interested. Big Jim Red Cloud, the HHC Founder is #467.
To see a full screen just click at the bottom of the small map. You can double click on the big map to zoom in. repeated double clicks will get you in closer.
I'm getting updates from Challengers. So far apparently two bikes have gone down. No fatalities but condition of riders unknown. I also get text msgs from the Hoka Hey organizers, sounds like they were riding in some pretty heavy rain earlier today.
I'm surprised at how many are riding in groups this year. Seems each year there are more and more doing it that way. Maybe because of the smaller numbers of riders each year?
I know they don't give out the entire route at once, but it'd be cool if they showed the route as they go. I looked at the map last night and am just now looking again, and it would be cool to know where they have been since I last looked.
OK IA, I have some questions. I had always assumed that at a checkpoint each rider was given their next checkpoint.
If that were the case, I would assume most would follow the same route to the next checkpoint. Yet, looking at the map, the riders are following several different routes.
Why is that?
(nevermind, I see they are following the same route, just a few are way out front)
Rider 168, does he go by the handle Rude Jeff?
How are they handling the speed limits this year? Strictly enforced? Is there some lee way?
