Hello from da big guy!
I've put a LOT of miles on touring bikes, more than I ever did my own bikes. I worked for Radio Sound here in Louisville for almost 9 years anddid about 99.5% of all thetest riding. Since no one ever heard of that cheesy-*** place, they are the company that made the radios from 87 until Harmon Kardon (big name for H-D marketing) took over. Needless to say, from 97 to 05 I abused a bunch of different H-D fleet bikes & pre-prod CVO bikes, and the good news is I don't think you can easily tear one up - I tried! I'm fortunate in that I got to test ride in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, rode a 100th anniversary Ultra across country to Portland, OR, have been to the moco headquarters and product development center numerous times. Once we lost the H-D business, some people were let go, including myself, and I haven't looked back although I do miss doing product development in such an exciting industry. Plus I was one of two people who actually ride and know what works & adds value for real-world users, but that didn't mean anything to the bobble-heads when the bean counters said lay people off...
Since I now have a used, older bike with higher miles - and no warranty - I will be doing my own maintenance & work on it. Another hobby is hot-rodding later model fuel injected Trans Ams. I figure if I can tear down and modifyFI V8's, I can hopefully fix anything on aV-twin. I guess we'll see. I am glad I found a good forum for information, and will gladly provide whatever little bit of knowledge I have in return.
Shawn
