How's it going? I just found this place.
I ride a 75 XLH (well... when it's running) This looks like a pretty cool site, hope to join into some good HD discussion.

Hello and welcome....I have a question for you regarding a starter for my 76 Ironhead basket case.....I can't seem to find out which one is the one to use....I purchased a Hitachi over Ebay that saed it was for this year, but in no way fits into the starter housing nor do the through bolts line up with the mounting holes in the starter housing. Mine is a kick/electric. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and welcome to the forums.

Thanks for all the welcomes.

Regarding your question about the starter. It makes no sense to me why yours won't fit your bike.
I bought a hitachi starter for my bike last season and it fit perfectly. Easy to put on too. My bike is electric start only but I don't think that matters.
If your thru-bolts don't line up then my guess is that you have the wrong starter. Also, I'd be skeptical of buying things from ebay, even though I still do from time to time.

1)You say it's a basket bike. Are you positive it is a '76?
75 and 76s will have the left hand shift with a shift linkage crossing the back of the motor and a long shifter arm. Of course, this could have been changed.

2) What's the model number on your starter. Although, I think there is only one hitachi model that will work for 75 and 76s.
