Default Soft tail or Dyna

Hello to all, new to the site and am looking at converting from a sport bike to a HOG. Can’t wait, not really surewhy Iwasted time and money on a sport bike in the first place. Anyway it’s up for sale and can’t wait until its sold. I am interested in a 2008 Softtail Fatboy fire glow red. Also looked at the Dyna family may be the super glide custom but I really have my heart set on a Fatboy even though its out of my price range. I do have 1 question how different dose a fatboy ride when compared to a super glide custom and wide glide? Is one family better then the other? I like the looks of the soft tails a little more. Ridding a borrowed 2000 Dyna Wide Glide for the time being and it is very comfortable. Any feed back would be appreciated!

They're all good!! Go to the dealer and ride a few. I had a Fatboy five years ago and really enjoyed it. I now have a Road King and really enjoy that. Maybe check around the dealer's or a private party and see who has the best deal for you...

I have a Softail Night Train. Two of my buddies have Dynas. Nobody complains. Do you want steak, or would you rather have steak? It is a win-win...unless you figure out how to get both! Welcome to the site.

I ride a Low Rider and wouldn't trade it for anything. I prefer the mid-mount controls to the forward controls. I blame it on years of riding dirt bikes.
I think it is really a matter of personal preference when deciding which Harley is right for you.

Thanks all! Oh I forgot to mention I am from Central Iowa, been poking around the site and lots of good information in here. Already read old forums on soft tails and dynas so at least I know what to expect from each family. Still need to ride a softy yet which will be the deciding factor. Yeah lots of people have just told me to go right to a tour bike but that is not the style I am after at this point.

The wide glide that I am using for the time being is a nice ride, I don’t mind the vibration when sitting at stop lights actually I kind of like it, I hear the softies don’t vibrate at all but I like the looks of them but comfort comes first, that rocker looks real nice but I know I would not be able to ride very far on it which is the same problem I have now with the sport bike, I know you have heard it all before, etc…

Take your time and buy what you really want. As far as what is “out of your price range" I caution you not to settle for a bike you are not satisfied with in order to save a few bucks. In one, maybe two, years you will find yourself either trading it in, or selling it, to get the bike you should have gotten in the first place. Too many bikers waste money that way, save couple of thousand up front and then lose twice as much in depreciation when they try to unload it. If you can't afford a new version of your dream bike, look for one a couple of years old, but stick with the bike you really want, or you will be sorry.

Any way, good luck with the hunt and welcome from sunny San Diego!
