I have never rode a bike before, buy given fuel costs and my itch to get a bike, I was wondering what the group would recommend for a fuel efficient beginner bike. Also, is it necessary to get a beginner bike, or can I take lessons to prepare for any bike? I really like the Dyna street BOB. Am i crazy to think that I can just hop on a bike like that having never riden before. Looking forward to my quest to buy a bike. Any other tips or suggestoins would be greatly appreciated.
Personally if you havent riden before, I would recomend you start with something considerably smaller than any Harley.
 \\;
In fact I would recommend that first of all you take the MSF course before buying a bike.
 \\;
Then consider something such as \\;a Honda Rebel to practise on and learn the basic skills. Its a lot lighter and has less power and will be more forgiving WHEN you make mistakes. As with anything, there is a learning curve to go through.
 \\;
Get a reliable second hand one, I believe they arent too expensive and wont put too big a dent in youre Harley budget. If you drop it at least it wont be a Harley you dropped.
 \\;
When youre confident with that you might want to think about something around the 650cc range.
 \\;
There are people who get straight on a Harley. Personally I'm glad I started out with a small bike and worked my way up.
 \\;
Whichever route you take enjoy and stay safe.

Photo has the right answer dead nuts on. The reason you see so many Harleys for sale with no miles is people think you just hop on and go. Safety Course first and then decide if you want to go further. Good luck.
 \\; \\;Bobby, Take their advise ,riding a motorcycle isn't like riding a bicycle,learn on something small,and work your way up.Not trying to rain on your parade,just trying to keep you safe.
