I am seriously looking to become a Harley owner, very seriously. I just visited my local Harley dealer today and got some good info but am looking for more. One of the salesman recommended this site. I do not currently own a motorcycle and have never had a license but have ridden although it was very little a long time ago. I am now 45 and my kids are getting very close to leaving home so I'm looking to get a Harley for me and the wife to travel some on, after she trust me enough to get on behind me. Any advice on what bike or general biking info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
A long time ago, i was given this info from a friend. He told me to buy the biggest, most expensive Harley i could afford, and that i would not be sorry. He was right, so i share this with you. Also, you will soon become the cool friend that others talk about so good luck on what ever you choose. And welcome to the forum from MIssouri.
Welcome! I'm 50 and am a brand new Harley rider and owner myself. Never rode before, but always wanted to - so I took the plunge. It's never too late to learn to ride. You'll find a lot of great information here. Read as much as you can, talk to friends that are bikers, take a new rider class - and try lots of bikes. You'll find one that's right for you.
Best of luck - and show us pics of that ride when you get her!
I have looked at sportsters for several months because I thought they'd be easiest on my wallet but after talking to a harley dealer today I found the Dyna's are close. I am also from Missouri near Springfield. Thanks for the advice.
What should I expect to pay for a decent Dyna or Softail? I was told by the dealer that I should look for a 2006 or newer due to some nice changes to the Dyna. I thing a new Harley is definently out of the question but would like to invest in a nice one.
A new Dyna or softailis 16-18k. If you're looking for a 2006 or newer, you might as well buy a new one because it's only a couple thousand in difference. Make sure your dealership is an MSRP dealership and if you find an MSRP dealership you might find a good price used. My buddy traded his 06 DYNA Low Rider custom for a 08 Fat Bob and they listed his old bike for 12,500 with 6,000 miles on it. My bike is an 08 dyna street bob, check out my album. I would just go to the dealer and see what they will let you test drive.. Mabee rent a couple to see what you really like.. It is all about what you feel the most comfortable on and like the best.. Welcome to the forums..
