1st Post and Remap/ECU Question
I know this question has been asked in many ways, but not exactly my way. so here it goes.
Out of the box I wanted to do V&H Sideshots, Heavy Breather, and PC-V. The dealer talked me into just doing pipes and a ECU remap and keeping the A/C stock for now. An effort to save me a few $$$. Their explanation is A/C and a remap or pipes and a remap amount to the same difference in the same dealer re-flash.
1) Will adding the Heavy Breather to a remapped and piped dealer setup require a Power Commander type of device or can I get away with the same (pipes and stock A/C) remap?
2) Should I (or the dealer) just do all 3 out of the box and be done if that is where I am headed anyway?
Thanks in advance. I appreciate your opinions.
I'm not sure the dealer is giving you good advice there. If you read through the hundreds of posts on this forum on this topic I would say the general consensus is that you do not need the remap if you are doing only pipes or A/C but not both.
If you want to do both then you have to look at a remap as the minimum required to keep from running too lean. Or you could look at adding the IEDs from Nightrider.com (again, a ton of info on this forum about these). Those are the least expensive ways to do an A/C and pipes and not have to worry about your scoot running lean. If you want to max ponies or do further upgrades to the engine down the road then skip all of the above and go for the various EFI tuners out there (SERT, TTS, PC5, TMAX, etc.)
Disclaimer: Every thing above is from the many discussions on this board about the TC88/96, the 883 may have a different set of issues, don't think so but may.....
Changing just pipes you will not need a re-map.
Doing both you will need a re-map.
Changing the pipes after you have changed the air cleaner u MAY need a re-map.
If you are looking to do both of these modifactions you might get away with a stage 1 map but you would get better performance out of a type of tuner. Power commanders and the SERT/ SEST are very popular choices.
My advice after expierencing this more then once is to do everything at once. I did one thing at a time and having a SERT i had to have my bike re-tuned everytime costing and additional $200-$300 each time i mad a motor or pipe or air intake mod.
Congrats on the new bike and good luck!!
