I Just picked up a 2008 Heritage and want to change the exhaust with new slip on. Has any one drilled out the factory pipes or is it a waste of time.

Welcome to HDF...
Back pressure is critical. A tuned exhaust is the best way to go.
If you open your pipes, you might consider torque cones.
