Default hello from northern va

Hello! My wife and I are taking the MSF course at the end of July, and plan on buying bikes early August. Anyways i've been lurking around these forums, and figured it was time to just say hi to everyone.

Lots of good reading!

We spent some time at the local dealerships checking out bikes. I'm 6 foot and need something with forward controls, and wife is shorter, and needs something with mid controls.

I really like the Soft Tail Fat Boy Lo. (I like the look and I like what it feels like sitting on it, but obviously you can't tell everything about a bike by just sitting on it in a showroom floor lol).

Seems like there are alot of satisfied folks with the soft tail's so i don't see how I can really go wrong. Plus i really dig the fact that its not covered in chrome, and is all blacked out.

I plan on making my bike a daily commuter into DC every day (about 30-40 minute ride on express ways, part of the way in really slow moving traffic). Sorta hope/plan to ride is mostly in spring/fall/summer, and probably not so much on cold winter days.

Wife hasn't really decided on what she wants, but she is dead-set on a Harley. She wants something comfortable, but she is on a budget, and would prefer for it to have a purple tank, mid controls, and saddle bags to carry her purse lol. They put her on an 883 low in the showroom, and a dyna and she sorta liked the way they felt, but they weren't in purple.

Anyways she's had this love for Harley's since she was a child, and even still has this.... this is actually what she wants ..... (of course a real one)

For those of you guessing the Die Cast is a 2000 FXDX Dyna Super Glide Sport

Welcome to the forum, Also from Northern VA. Ride to DC regularly but at 4:30AM there isn't much traffic yet to slow me down. If you ride later you can take advantage of the HOV on the bike.

The HOV on the bike is what i'm really thinking about. ATM i ride the bus from loudoun county in. It takes the airport portion of the toll road, then hits 66, then rosslyn to crystal city. I keep my eye on the traffic on the side, and the regular hov lane of the toll road seems like it goes pretty good. Looks like it sucks mostly around the beltway exit, and you just have to stay way the hell away from the exit from the tollroad to the beltway. Then inside the beltway 66 equally sucks for the bus or anyone driving.

I think I can save alot of time once I get a bike.

Thanks!

Yesterday we were over at Whitts in Manasses VA. Last weekend we went over to Patriot in Fairfax VA.

I live in Sterling, VA.

Next weekend we are heading over to Gaithersburg & Fredrick MD to check them out.

We're basically right at IAD Airport/DC region, pretty close to leesburg on the big VA maps.

Well, welcome from Leesburg...

Between the 'local' dealers (Patriot, Groves, Frederick, Whitts, Gettysburg), and I didn't purchase a bike from any of them - I prefer dealing with Groves in Winchester & Battlefield in Gettysburg.

Winchester, VA & Gettysburg, PA
