Cool NEW From Chicago....

Hey All -

Wanted to say hi as I've just joined the forum. I do not own a bike as of yet, but did take the Harley Rider's Edge course a couple months back and got my "M" license.

Want to get a Harley but everyone says a Harley as a first bike is a mistake. Just would like to know your thoughts out there on this.....I wouldn't be starting out on a Roadking or anything but don't want to start on a Sportster either.

I'm thinking Wideglide or something of that nature......am I crazy? My dream bike is a StreetGlide.

Anyway, glad to be here and am looking forward to all the wisdom out there from you seasoned riders!

Welcome from Central Illinois. When it comes to Harley's i would never say a Harley is not good for a first bike. Mine was. 1972 sporty and I loved it.

Thanks everyone....I have no over-estimations about my riding ability: I am a rookie by every definition of the word. But, I just don't want to buy something, get tired of it in 6mos and take a bath when I trade it in

Although, the Forty-Eight is pretty slick looking

Welcome from the Joliet area.
I've been riding for 28 years and have yet to own any other make than an HD. Fourteen so far, in fact. I DID start out on a '73 Sportster, but within a year moved up to a Big Twin.
Get what you're comfortable with and what you think you can handle.
Good luck.
