Talking Hello from Illinois

Hi,

I just joined this forum. Currently, I own a Triumph Bonneville, 2007. I also have a Suzuki SV650, purchased for my son, so I have a guaranteed ride-mate!!

Anyway, I'm seriously looking to buy a 2011 Road King, but I want to lurk on this forum for a while, and get some solid insight before I take the plunge. My wife has finally taken to going on much longer trips, and the Bonnevilee as you can imagine, is only good for 1-2 night get-a-ways. I'm talkin' Grand Canyon / Route 66 stuff now, as I'm 59, and gettin' near to retirement time (I hope!!).

Interested in any feedback on local Dealers, as I know they can't ALL be great. Also interested in feedback from recent 2011 Road King buyers. Satisfied/disatisfied, etc.

Dealers around me (far west Suburbs, Yorkville area) are Heritage, Zylstra, maybe Starved Rock. I don't mind riding far to get attached to a decent dealer, as I currently do business with Triumph up in Janesville, Wisconsin, 87 miles away. There are closer dealers, but they are not ... so... good.

Woodstock HD, maybe Rockford area not out of the question. Please provide some advice and feedback.

Thanks all,

Bob

Welcome!! Good luck with your venture for a 2011 Road King!! My suggestion is to look at Kutter Harley in Janesville, they are great people! Also, a bit further is Capitol City Harley, which is where I got my Heritage. Great people to deal and work with and a nice dealership. If you need contact info for Capitol, PM me and I will give you a good sales guy to work with! Also Uke's by the border. I have never used them or been there yet, but they are a family orientated business!

Enjoy the forum! Alot of great stuff here!

Thanks Sammer, I'll check it out. After the experiences I had with buying my Triumph in '07, and many other bikes since about 1970, I swore I'd join a forum and get "fully educated" before I bought another bike.

Obviously we didn't have great forums like this years ago, so this is a great source of infinite information.

It does sometimes get a little maddening though, as on the "misinformation" highway, it seems like whatever the topic, 50% love it... and 50% hate it. Ya gotta read between the lines sometimes.

I do appreciate the "Wisconsin" factor though, as the Team Triumph guys in Janesville are 500% better than any other dealers I had exposure to. Good news is: ALL of the former 'crook' dealers I had experiences with have gone out of business since 2007. No surprise there.

Anyway, thanks for the great heads up, I'll keep 'em on the short list.

Bob

Welcome to the forum.

I bought my bike from Lake Shore in Libertyville. They have treated me really well and they offer a mail order service if you want to order something and have it shipped to you.

Welcome aboard from New York. Since you are looking into extended trips check out the Ultra. Comfort and storage can't be beat.

Welcome from the Joliet area. Starved Rock is a good dealer from what I have heard from friends down that way. Stay away from Conrads in Joliet. Heritage in Lisle is good also,
