Hello, I recently purchased my first Harley back in May as a 21st birthday present to myself! I was recently medically discharged from the Marine Corps. now living back home in De., looking for a job and attending school full time thanks to the Gi-Bill! I have been wanting to buy a Harley since my dad took me across the United States when I was 12 years old on his Electra Glide Classic! So after looking all over and going to see countless bikes on Craigslist, I finally found one that screamed my name!
It is a 93 Sportster with 10,000 miles on it (had just under 6,000 when I bought it!) It has Edlebrock Pistons/Heads/Carb, and ran like a champ!
Had it for about a month and had an issue with a short in the wiring causeing it not to start. Got that fixed!
A little bit later I noticed a wet spot on my jeans after I rode for a little bit on the inner left thigh. Turned out to be gas...the gas tank has a custom bracket welded to it for the sportster frame and seemed to have cracked allowing a small amount of gas to leak out.
Then once that issue was fixed I noticed a bubble in the paint that slowly grew bigger and bigger, finally cracking and destroying the awesome air brushed wolf that was on the tank. This was caused my a crack about an inch in size on the top of the tank with pinhole leaks.
Had a few people try to fix this crack and the bracket. The bracket to my knowledge is now fixed but still have a small issue with the top crack when the tank is filled all the way up with gas. I have stripped the paint from the tank and have a 6$ spray paint job on there so i can ride for the time being til I can afford to get the top crack fixed fully and a good paint job.
My real issue is the bike seems to die on me while riding, but only when I give it throttle...it is as if it runs out of gas...or the air/gas mixture is too rich/lean and it wants to bog out. It is weird because some days, I will go out to mess with it, and it will start up like normal, I get on to take her for a spin and she rides fine for a good few hours, then it might randomly start bogging out... I have messed with the tuning for this and still no avail. The bike will idle perfectly, but when its put in gear, it doesn't like throttle. It boggles me as to what would cause this, Any help would be greatly appreciated! and let me know if you need any more specific details/information.
Welcome to the forum. Nice looking bike, and thank you for your service to the USA. As far as your questions go, as said earlier, post them in he Sportster or repair sections for yor best answers.
