hey folks...just finished my rigid w/ 1340 evo out of an 87 FXR...got it started on thursday, then it was super hard turning over....oil was coming out of the crankcase breather like a m.f....i've tried a brand new starter from spyke,1.4 kw,super torque....i've put the trans in 4th gear, and pulled the back wheel over until it seemed like no more oil was coming out of the crankcase boss...pulled both plugs out,and finally it turned over...but only turns over with the plugs out. the motor ran perfectly when i took it out of the donor FXR...WTF am i missing??? any help would be greatly appreciated!
did you plumb it up right on the oil lines???I have heard of that allowing one to dump a lll the oil out of the bag into the crankcase and if it is a big tank like half of the fat bob tank it could hydraulic
Welcome from Hampton Roads Virginia...USA....Drain all the oil out. Refill it to correct level and run it about 5 minutes and shut it off. Recheck it for correct level. If it's way low there is something wrong with the oilpump. The oil pump is two pumps in one. One forces oil thru motor. The other one which is the bigger of the two returns the oil to the tank. If these bike sit a while and the oil that has collected up in the air filter runs down or you really turn them up to high rpm they will throw some oil into airfilter area and this is normal. Wrong oil filter can also cause problems keeping too much oil in engine. Could be your battery is worn out. Lot of little checks. if it ran OK when it was running it is probably OK. Just needs a little TLC and understanding

last weekend a sporty got fired for the first time in two months ----before he fired it he checked the oil level and it showed nothing.so he filled it to the high mark in the tank then tried to fire it and it ran a few sputters and tied up (hydro lock)before it was done it took a starter and a bag of floor dry .In his mind he had drained the oil and changed the filter but didn't add oil back.so my quess is it actually held twice the amount of oil minus a little -----it was funny especially since this thread was up
