I just bought a 2006 Ultra Classic and cannot figure out the fuel warning lamp. It comes on when I fill the tank and stays on for about 50 miles. It does not warn of low fuel. The fuel gauge works fine. I checked all wiring, plugs etc. Have not been in the tank yet. Any clues ?.
They are useless. On my bike it comes on at 1/4 tank showing on the gauge yet when I add fuel at that point it only takes just under 2 gallons. When the bike shows empty it only takes 3 gallons,in a 5 gallon tank.
I suggest filling up,riding til it's empty, note the miles per tank. Then use the odo as to when it's time to fill up.
My bike will get just over 400kms per tank so I just run off the trip meter.
re-set your trip odometer (I use A for gas, and B for trips, or service intervals)... my fuel gauge died years ago... or rather became erratic... it reads FULL after I top off, then drops to E after 50 miles, and the low fuel light comes on at 60 miles....
Sometimes, the gauge will show fuel again, when I've gone 150 miles... but only if it's in the right mood.
I know I get 40 MPG at worse, and 50 on back roads.... so I'm not worried. If I were to use the slab for an extended tour.. I'd stop every 100 miles anyway, just to stretch...
Welcome, I got almost 60k on my 11 Fltrx. I gave up on that light miles ago. I run the trip meter only and I never change it. I get gas at 50 miles no matter what. Keeps the fuel sending unit cooled with fuel and all deposits in the bottom.

I ignore mine most of the time cause it comes on just under a half tank shown on the gauge. But just recently I was in that ignore mode and the light was on and the gauge was down to almost empty. I only had 25 miles to go to get gas but the gauge never moved one darn bit. I guess it was telling me it really was empty this time, the gauge that is, cause when I filled up it took 5.1 gallons. Now just how do you put 5.1 in a 5 gallon tank. And yes I always fill it sitting on it with it vertical so I always know when it's truly full. I must have been running on fumes is all I can say and a good thing I found a station when I did. That's cutting it too close.
