Fuel management questions
I have a 98 Electra Glide FLHTCI and I was hoping someone here knew the tank capacity. Also my fuel gauge like most does not work and if you know the capacity about how many miles do you get on one tank. I want to use my trip mile to calculate it. My low fuel light did come on but it came on around 103 miles. Does that sound about average. How far can I go after that light comes on. And lastly this is my first FI bike and only the second bike I have ever owned since learning to ride 3 years ago. I have searched for a petcock but I am guessing it doesn't have one being a FI bike. Thanks!!!!!

5 gal tank, I would fill her up go ride until fuel light comes on and see how many gal she will take. Then hand calculate your mpg. Be aware that you can only use about 4.7 gals out of the tank or start risking fuel starvation.
Sorry about the double post
how many gals did you take after 103 miles?

If I were you, I would replace the fuel guage. It is not a usual occurance on a Harley that the guage does not work. On a Sportster, it may not be that crucial of an item, but on a tourer where you will log some miles it is way important. There are some areas were gas stations are NOT plentiful.
Fuel Injected bikes do not have petcocks as they do not have reserve tanks.

The fuel gauge shoots to full when riding so I was thinking it may not be the gauge but something in the tank and since the low fuel light comes on early seems to be the case. Forgot to mention that the light will go off too so I think that light is way off too. Before this I filled the tank.
Talked to the previous owner and he said he got 40 mph per gallon so with a 5 gallon tank = 200 miles. I should be ok if I start looking for a place to stop and fill up between 150 and 175. I will have whatever is causing the gauge to not work fixed.

Thats a good idea. Haven't filled up yet but last time the light cames on it only took 2.1 gallons. When it stops raining here I will take it and fill it up to see where we are at. Sounds like the light is kicking on before mid tank

My '96 RK had the same "5-gal." tank and one day when I had little to do I emptied it and carefully measured its real capacity. It held 5.4 gal., but this was a carb bike, so the EFI with fuel-pump hardware inside the tank will hold less. My '07 SG holds 5.2 gal., so that's probably a good estimate for your bike, as the tanks should be the same. EFI in-tank hardware may be different, however, as the '98 uses M&M while the '07 is Delphi.

the fuel gauge sender is a float type unit, if you feel like pulling it and bending the arm.
it's is fiddly but can be done successfully
the same unit also controls the light
as suggested above, use your trip meter, over time you will know what type of MPG you get.
just compare your miles travelled to gallons added
on my evo I always started looking at 125 miles if in unfamiliar territory--- my usual range was 165 to 190 miles at highway speeds
