ScottinAZ I am sorry but why the complaint about XRX giving his opinion? I personally had a front HD POS Dunlap let go (low sided) at maybe 45mph on a road with a traffic circle in Homestead, FL. Took me a year to recover and my shoulder has not been anymore than 80%. That hard 19" tire would last a long time (miles) but unfortunately I have a 16"/130 sitting next to the lift to put on once I returned from that trip. I for one, will spend the money for a tire with traction.

Follow some of his other posts where XRX interjects his "experience" where it really matters. He seems to feel the resident expert on everything under the sun. That and the fact that his "bragging" about changing tires as often as his underwear is getting a bit tireing.......He is little more than a troll, infesting more and more areas of the site.

Default Thank you

I thought it was something I missed on tires. I did not know.

Traction isn't an "issue" with this "style" of motorcycle?

Lol.

Were you under the impression that this "style" of motorcycle operates in some alternate dimension where the laws of physics don't apply?

alright, let me lay this out in crayon for you. Touring bikes do not require ultra sticky race compound tires, as the chassis is already the limiting point for handling. Stickier tires than designed fir only reduce tire life without increased handling. Now, kindly take your race tires and leave. This post was never designed to become a pissing match withanyone, it was meant to inform others that THIS PARTICULAR TIRE DOES NOT TYPICALLY GIVE LONG LIFE ON A HARLEY DAVIDSON TOURING CHASSIS BIKE.

Ok, I'm going to add onto this thread, as I have now used up a SECOND 777HD rear at about the same mileage I got with the first. I hadhad sworn off these tires as junk, and replaced with a Metzeler 888, but also that tire lived a very short life due to a road hazard. My indy had in stock, you guessed it Shinko 777 HD in the proper size, so I had it mounted. Usage same as the first, nearly all in town stop and go. Pressure religiously followed on sidewall. Results, still crappy.

as an aside, I have a Shinko 230 tourmaster on the front, and while it's not totally shot, it's starting to cup pretty good. Mileage is right at double the rears, or about 8500 to 9000 miles I'm replacing both with Michelin Commander 2's here in the next week or so. They cost about 40 bucks a piece more, but if I can get more miles out of them, I'll save in the long run on my time and mounting.

I had never heard of Shinko until Jerry “The Motorman” Palladino did this review.

I have used the 777HD tires on My fatboy. I have no issues with them at all. I would rather spend the $200, including mounting to replce both tires every 6 our 7k miles then spend double that amount for 1 tire that may last a little longer

Well, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. All I know is I don't like how the bike handles on the Harley Davidson branded Dunlops, and I've seen many positive comments in various places about the Shinko 777 HD. Still researching...
