Default 2001 electra glide classic commander 2 tires

Sorry if this has been asked before but can I run a michelin commander 2 rear tire size 140/90b16 on my 2001 E-Glide without any issues?

Yes you can, it will have a slightly taller sidewall but be the same width as your stock MU85B16. I recommend running it at 42psi versus the 40psi spec, this will keep it from cupping...

dfwhockey17, his 2001 used a MT90 (130) with a 1-1/2" belt ... HD didn't start using the MU85 (140) until 2004 with a 1-1/8" belt.

Dr.Olds442, you can use the 140, but the belt will probably be really close...
So close that some people report that the belt misses going forward and slightly rubs while pushing the bike backwards. YMMV

That being said, yours might clear totally or some people run them even in the situation stated above. But just so you know, if you go ahead with the 140 instead of the 130 and there's a problem, there's a couple vendors that market a pulley spacer for your exact application ... "140 tire use on 2000-03 Touring"

let me know if you need them pointed out

Thanks for the good reply...I have the chance to buy a near new takeoff with only a couple hundred kms on it for $100 canadian where i live the cheapest new is $256 canadian so the spacer is probably way to go...I will look it up i believe I read so.eplace Pingel makes it.

****! you are right and I knew that! A MU/140 usually fits without major issues, sometimes you may have to trim the lower belt guard but you should have no issue with belt clearance...

Yes, Pingel offers one, but Vulcan makes one that is quite a bit less expensive.

Again some people have issues, some don't ...
The Vulcan is cheap enough that you could acquire it "just in case". Do a temporary "Mock up" without the spacer (no loctite ) and then you decide if it's needed.

Vulcan 2000-03 FL Rear Sprocket Spacer
Pingel 2000-03 FL Rear Sprocket Spacer

Btw, using that pulley spacer, the 1-1/2" Sprocket will end up very very close to the swing-arm

Pingel's Blurb... (Vulcan's is similar)
"This Rear Sprocket Spacer allows the installation of tires up to 142mm wide on 2000-2003 H-D FL models without any other modification to the motorcycle. This easy to install spacer fits between the rear rim and the rear belt sprocket and will allow the use of the Dunlop 142mm wide rear tire, the standard on all 2004 through 2006 FL Series motorcycles. There is no extra machining or parts needed to install."
