Default commander III vs ME888

Its time for new tires on my 2014 Ultra Limited. I currently have Commander IIs on it and my 2012 Road Glide Custom. I have been pretty happy with them. I went to the tire shop for C2's and was told they are discontinued and C3s are the new ones, but they are on indefinite backorder. Anyone had experience with the Metzler ME888? I ran ME880 on my wide glide years ago. Ive also hear Avons are good, but dont know which model for a touring bike. Any advice and opinions are welcome. Just looking for experiences with these tires.

They're having lots of trouble with Commander IIIs quality, I'd look elsewhere.

Click View tyre and then Show available sizes.

I just had Commander III tires replaced under warranty on my Street Glide Special. The local bike shop had Metzler Cruiztech tires on the shelf so I went with those. The handling is really good but I have not pushed them hard into curves or rode in the rain with them.

My other bike, a 2004 XL1200 have the ME 888 tires and they handle very good! However, I have not used these tires on a touring bike.

I’ve run 888’s on my SERK, they’re great handling tires in all conditions. I’d have to check my records, but I think I replaced them at around 10K (have had two sets on this bike).

Replaced tires a couple weeks ago, and my indie strongly recommended the Dunlop American Elite this time around. He’s running them on his bagger, has been recommending them for a while now, and has great feedback about performance and durability. I’ve put about 2K on them so far and I give them two thumbs up. They feel very similar to the 888, but may track a bit better.

I’d happily run either.

I think it is more related to Covid and the shutting down of materials and production plants vs "lots of troubles with the tires quality"

Default Me 888

I like the ME 888's. I just bought a rear for my '05 King and it has what appears to be a seam in the center of the sidewall on both sides.
Anybody know what this is?
