Ok folks I looked through a million posts and could not find what I'm looking for, if you want to give me a hard time for posting about something thats already here go ahead I have broad shoulders! My brand new 1996 Heritage is needing some new tires even though they are brand new I dont think I want to try driving on 25 year old tires so instead of going stock size I would like to go wider on the rear rather than the stock pizza cutter.
1 How wide could I go on the stock wheel?
2 Is there a wider wheel I can buy?
Its a spoke wheel with a belt drive. Thanks in advance.
Certainly wider wheels are available BUT
The stock wheel is not your limiting factor
It`s the available space inside the fender and clearance between tire and belt
Time to measure
I was being lazy thinking an old bike someone must have experience/ mods to install a wider tire. I took a friends bike for a spin he had a very wide tire on it to big for me and I found it hard to corner with.
Your stock tyre are just fine for the job they have to do! Stock rear is an MT, in other words 130/90. You may find that an MU/ 140/85 will fit, but after that you will need to do some surgery on your bike. There are conversion kits out there!

Thanks, since I've been out of the bike scene for a number of years I was thinking that someone must have gone through this and could save me a bunch of steps. Yes I should buy a bike more to my liking but this one kinda fell into my lap so I'm still on the fence weather or not to keep it. Do you know who builds these kits?

Randy
I've never used one, so can't offer any recommendations, however if you visit the Evo or Softail sections you should find plenty of members who can help. There are several brands who make kit, so search for 'Evo wide tyre kits'. Here's one supplier:
Randy, your bike is an Evo and we have a great Evo section, which I recommend you visit, to meet fellow owners. Someone there is bound to be able to offer advice!
