Default Motorcycle tire pressure... who is right?

I stopped by my harley dealer to ask about a seat they had and topic of tire pressureq came up because of an issue I was having on my ride from work to the dealership. I explained what I was experiencing and they asked what my tire pressure was set at....I told them 36psi, which is what my service manual calls for in the front and back for a solo rider(FXDF).

They said that though the manual says that, its not correct... they told me that I need to follow what the tire says on the sidewall(cruisetech says 50psi).

Who is correct?

I have never heard such a thing. In trucks I jack it way up when supper heavy load. On my bikes I have been running it 36ish, no matter passenger or loaded. I don't vary my tire pressure or shocks, to much hassle. Not saying it is right

Number on the side of the tire is the maximum pressure, not the recommended pressure for your bike. Follow the manual or the tire manufacturer (Avons take higher than Dunlop). I run 36/40 on AEs.

Oh yeah, and find another dealer

I was curious so I checked my Owners Manual and Harley Service Manual which both say a DF should be 36 front 40 rear with the Dunlops?

As mentioned 36 and 40 are the numbers you are looking for ... Figure on the sidewall is MAXIMUM pressure ... The one yoy spoke with at the dealer should be a shoe salesman

What do you want for $150.00 per hour labor rate, techs that know what they are doing?
