2021 Sport Glide - I went and tried a set of Shinko 890 touring tires but only have about 80 miles on them. I have read and seen tire failures on many brands but I have also ran 2 sets of Shinko R-009 on my Yamaha FJR1300 so who knows when one will buy a defected tire. This is also my 1st Harley so everything is still new to me working on it. 87 mph was highest I went per gps with no vibration wheel / tire wise so I must be close on the static balance.
Now I get to brag about the my stupids with wrenches. 1st was back tire when I found out I needed a 36 mm for the axle nut but 1/2 impact on the axle head and took the axle right out. I now have the 36 mm wrench I need. Got the back tire on the bike then spinning the tire around to see where the belt was going on the belt pully only to see I missed 3 wheel weights that I did not see while on the balancer but figured it stopped in 3 different spots on the balancer so life should be good. Also put a Kurvy Girl metal angled valve stem on so it would be easier to put air in it.
Now the front tire stupids. Pulled front tire off the wheel - cut the rubber valve stem off the popped the Shinko front tire on. Went to air it up to pop the bead but no valve stem which was another Kurvy Girl which was still on the bench. Pull the tire back off the wheel and put valve stem in the tire back on. Aired up easy after that. Balanced ok and on the bike.
There are times that I think about locking the tool boxes and losing the key out on the hiway.
I do the mount and balances myself too. It's always such a pleasure, but the real payoff is knowing it's done properly. Many shops have the new guy donig the "simple" jobs, so they are not always done right.
