FWIW, I had my '08 do the same thing. I removed the cap only to discover the gasket had a slight twist and pinch (maybe from uneven factory torquing of the two screws). Unpinched the gasket, put it back together, and have had no leaking since.

Good luck!

Also make sure it is not over filled and don't be afraid to "snug" those screws down...back-n-forth in equal amounts. Too loose and it will leak, but too tight and it will also leak as you will "pooch" the seal. If you tighten one side down and then the other....it will almost surely leak. Take it off, check the seal, tighten the screws equally until you get them both pulled down. Check the seal all way around the cap and you can tell if it is pulled down squarely around the lid.

It should not be a common thing.

I think it's a common thing because people (like me) tighten it down too much. The torque on it is very small. I couldn't get mine to quit leaking until I loosened it up.

Yep...it's hard to describe what "sung" is. Some of us just don't know our own strength (LOL). Individually...we have to figure out how tight it needs to be to stay in and not leak and then how tight is has to NOT be to pooch the seal.

I just tightened it until right before the gasket started to bulge.
