I have a 92 Sofatil that someone has flipped the axle on, so it goes through from the left side. I want to mount an axle tag bracket to it so I have to remove the axle completely and was planning on putting it back through from the right side since my exhaust will no longer interfere with it that way. Local bike shop wants 1.5 hours of labor to do it and I think that is ridiculous. Anyways, I dont have a bike lift or jack so my question is this:
Can I leave the bike sitting on the kickstand and slide the axle out and flip it and slide it back in?
I have never worked on a bike so I want to make sure the wheel isn't going to go anywhere and my friggin bike fall.

No you defiantly need a jack,I have used a trolley jack with the bike on the side stand, not ideal but it's ok if you are careful,+ a torque wrench to re-tighten the axle
Cool, thanks.. Guess I will see if I can locate a jack now..
All you need is a scissor jack, the sort of thing that comes with some autos. Lift under the rear of the frame (put a piece of card between it and frame, to save the paint) and gently lift until the tyre is only just touching the ground.
Loosen all nuts before lifting the bike, then you should be able to slide the axle out and back in, refit nuts, lower and remove the jack, then tighten up.
