Default Chrome calipers leaking

I got a set of chrome calipers and I can't get them to quit seeping. There's not a drip but they are wet. They are as tight as I can make them, I took the calipers apart to check the seals, they look good. I checked to make sure there was no grit or anything under the chrome that wasn't allowing it to seal properly but that looked good too. I even went ahead and replaced the seals since I was there and it's exactly the same. A friend of mine bought chromed stock calipers from a chromer on eBay and his do the same thing.

Has anyone seen or heard of this?

I've been looking at those chrome calipers on eBay....they sure look sharp, but maybe not such a good idea? I'll be interested to see if anyone helps you out here. Best of luck!

I heard from a guy on the tourng model section that said his chrome Brembos did the same thing. He went back to stock and got chrome covers. I think that's the way to go or make sure they mask off the mating surfaces when they chrome. I think the tolerances don't allow for extra thousandths in plating and that's what causes the leak. I just picked up a set of stock black ones, I'll try to find some covers and call it a wrap..

I have a set of chromed Brembo's from an e-Bay vendor and have no issues in the 10k miles since putting them on. Always make sure to replace the brass banjo bolt washer every time you remove it. I have seen these sweat fluid when reused. And be sure to tighten the banjo bolt to the proper TQ spec as well.

I got a set from ***** Shiney and have no issues. I tend to agree that the extra thickness from the chrome is probably causing your issue. It might have to be thinned out a little on the edges where the calipers seal together.

I had a similar problem with some rocker covers I had chromed, and leaked bad. I took a close look and the mating surfaces had a slight lip and drips. I cleaned them up carefully with fine mill file.

That would be me and yes I tried everything. The clearance on the Brembo's is so close that I guess the chrome is just enough to make them seep.

Before

After

If anyone needs the right side I still have it... like new!

Mine were doing the exact same thing. No drips just constant seeping that I figured would cause further damage and braking issues over time.

Like someone mentioned above, I also think your issue is with the mating surfaces of each halve. There is a good chance that a small amount of plating in one area is causing them to not fit flush. If possible try rubbing them on a lapping block.

Take them apart and check for improper masking, burrs, dings and flatness of mating parts.

A small surface plate works great for checking flatness and lapping.
