Question DIY wheel swap

I've seen a few of the bikes that have gone to a 21" front wheel and it has got me saving my pennies for a possible change. I would prefer to do it myself.

I want to know what is needed to make the change on a 2014 FLHTK. Different axle spacers? Fender brackets? Most of the wheel/tire combos I have seen come with rotors. I'm thinking of doing a 21" front and 18" rear.

TIA,

Hi Diggs, you'll get a better response over in Touring - they are so busy in there spending on new stuff they don't often call in here!

On '14 models you need brackets to raise the stock front fender a bit for a 21". If you get a PM wheel they include brackets for free. Other companies brackets range in price from $40 up.

Pre 2014 models do not require brackets for the front fender unless your bike is as CVO model.

Thanks for that info. What about any wheel spacers? Is it as simple as take one off and slide the new one in it's place?

Since you have a limited I assume it is ABS. Stock spacers should work although I prefer a nice tapered spacer to the look of the stock one. You only need right front and left rear spacers as the other side are the ABS pick ups.

Thanks for the great info, Hogpro.

I took a look at your web site. Wow! Lots of choices.

One more question, if you don't mind. How is the tire life of the low profile tires compared to the stock tires?

It all depends on brand and size of the tires you get. Without knowing specifics (what size wheels) there are far too many factors to consider to really give a good solid answer.

That's what I was afraid of. If I can save enough cash to get new wheels/tires, I'll probably hit you up again for more specifics.

Thanks again.
