Default 06 Wideglide tank on a 03 Superglide

Ok some of you may or may not already know this. But with what I would call very little effort I was able to mount a wideglide 06 tank to my 03 superglide. The tanks and sheet metalare on e bay cheap! All I had to do was cut off the back2 tangs that the rear bolt goes thru and use the top rear tang to mount it with.I took and drilled out the hole for the rear top tang and installed a rivenut in the hole. I used the factory front mout ( and could have just used the existing hole with no problem) But I decided to cut them and reweld them on upside down to give it a tank lift on the front.I will try and post pistures later.

Here a re a few pictures. I have the bike down since tuesday doing a few mods. I added a 6" longer frontend Changed the neck rake 5 degrees to bring the 5 degreetrees back to near stock trail.I lowered the engine 1" and I have a 250 tire to stuff under the rear and new handle bars to add or make ( undecided yet) also need to make billetfront fender mounts and fork stops.

"lowered the engine 1 inch"

That's interesting, I'm curious - how and why??

Tried to see what you did in the pix, but I couldn't make it out.

Yes after setting the rake onthe front the enginewas still a little high for my liking, So since I had the front neck tubes cut I added an extra inch to the steel inserts I made and welded everything back together.I'll see if I can add better pictures tomorrow. The tank was really the easyest thing to do so far after looking at it long and hard.

Ok here are some follow up pictures I promised . You can see in the one picture were I cut off the rear 2 tabs and marked the hole were to drill and tap to mount the rear. I thought I would need a rivenut to mount the rear but the frame is over .25 thich there so I will just tap it for 5/16 X18. As I stated before the front tabs do not need to be messed with or altered to mount the tank . But I decided to cut them off and weld them back on upside down to give me a 2 1/4 tank lift.I didn't get time today to start installing the wide tire kit, But I hope to start tomorrow.

Nice quality pix Jim. I was hoping to see better pix of the entire bike.

Yourtank lift, similar, but actually quite differentto whatI have done (picture is below),
is the proper way to "lift" the tank, as opposed to the flat strap method that is so popular.
