Default 103" Upgrade ?

OK, since my cosmetic mods are just about as far as I want to go, I'm thinking about a lil tech upgrade as well and need some input before going to the next stage.

For those that have gone with the 103" upgrade, was it worth the $? How much HP/Torque did you gain? How would you compare the reliability/driveability as opposed to the 96" with the stage 1 kit? How about any issues with added heat or does it run cooler? Did you go with the HD upgrade or another's kit (I know Kuryakyn has the "Cheap Thrill 103" and am sure there are others as well)?

I know there are quite a few questions lumped together, but I'd like some input before taking the plunge. I value the info I get here and look forward to hearing the plus/minus of this upgrade.

Thanks all

Beat you to it. I found that the search feature is working after I posed the question. However, I would still appreciate any fresh info from the folks here in my home territory (Dyna Room)...lol

I had the screaming 103" done to my fat bob recently and am very happy with the results. I did make some adjustments to the kit, going with 258 cams, forged flat top pistons and the performance heads, adjustable pushrods.

i also opted to go with the thundermax ecm + autotune after researching the tuners, passing on the SERT.

i put a couple thousand miles on the scoot prior to getting the build and there are several noticeable improvements, the big one is top end power is just incredible. The horsepower up in that higher RPM range is just non-existent in the factory motor, you know that point where the motor just stops? That is where the big HP kicks in now. also, throttle response is at least 2x better. starting off the line is so solid I do not worry about it, just gas it and let the clutch out. And I do not have to row the gear box trying to find the sweet spot in the rev range to accelerate at speed or with the g/f on back.

the bike does not seem to run hotter but i did get the oil cooler as well so i imagine that has made a difference.

Overall, A LOT more torque all around but the increase in HP for me is the big big difference, it's clear to me now that having both torque and HP is so much better.

I only have about 700 miles on the 103" right now and am taking her in this week for a dyno tune, thundermax did not have a specific map for this build. My goal is to get 100hp/100tq from this build. I'm quite sure we hit the torque goal and surpassed it but I can only hope we hit 100hp, it's pretty hard to get that.

as far as 103" options, I went with screaming eagle simply because I wanted to have the country-wide dealer service network to count on just in case and figured they would know the se build the best.

that being said it is much more expensive than the other options and not necc. as good, I do know that. The top 103" kits IMO are the zippers and the head-quarters one.

have fun man!

If you only getting 100/100 from a 103 you need to swap out some parts. I have an 06 Bob @ 100/100 with a 95...you numbers should be higher than that. I have also heard nothing but good things about the autotune so I'm rather surprised it is not giving you more hp and tq. With a 103 with heads, cam, a throttle body is never a bad idea at this point you should be around the 110hp and 110+tq depending on cam selection.

i gotcha, i was trying to say my 103" is fresh, untuned and undynoed and i "hope" for 100/100 as we have not measured the results.

i'm somewhat superstitious about these things and do not want to jinx it by stating #s without knowing them.

also, it is a higher perf 103" package that delivers 100+hp (as i was trying to say with the zippers or h-q packages) but living in a high heat area i don't believe that package was right for me.

+1 on the 50mm tb, I was thinking of getting it this week with the dyno tune.
