I've only seen the mpg calculated when you're navigating to a destination and it only shows you mpg for the current trip.
In that case, from the map display you can select "Trip Summary" from the pop-up menu, and hit the "More" button to see your mpg.

Actually, the ECM calculates both instant and trip MPG that can be displayed continuously if you are using a Dynojet Power Vision... As far as displaying on the Infotainment screen, nothing other than the little bit from the GPS as mentioned above
