Default Cat Heat

Does the catalytic converter produce enough heat to blue chrome?

I realize most bluing is caused by engine heat; I'm just curious if the cat does too.

The cat is designed to produce some heat. The O2 sensors are mounted there on the '10 and newer models. It's all part of the combustion regulation. As for flow, tests have indicated that flow is minimally effected on normal engines

I'm not worried about exhaust flow, and the heat hasn't yet been a problem. I'm contemplating slip-ons, and don't want to blow a lot of cash if the cat is going to blue them before I can replace the headers.

the header will turn blue but the slip ones won't get hot enough to change.

The Cat will not blue your slip ons. Having the wrong fuel mixture will discolor your slip ons. Just make sure you get a tuner of some sort and add the proper fuel.
