Ok guys I am putting on my first motorcycle exhaust and I this might be a dumb question but I would rather look dumb than mess something up. I bought the Fuel Moto 2/1/2 head pipe and I am in the process of installing it. I have watched the fuel moto video several times but mine doesn't seem to "click" in place like it does on the video. I am using new gaskets from harley. I have the pipe lined up as far as I can tell. I can get the flange on the bolts but there is not a lot of exposed thread. It seems like the pipe is not sitting in the exhaust port the way the factory pipe did. I have not tried to tighten all the way down because tight pretty quick. any advice is greatly appreciated guys.
Thank you.
Did you use they Harley gaskets that are kind of pointed? If so you will keep tightening the screws while the head pipe crushes the gasket and forms to the pipe. Shouldn't be too hard to screw in the nuts, but you should feel some resistance.
Just work it on.....gently wiggle the pipe while working it onto the studs. You may try pulling the pipes apart while working it on. Just don't force it and strip the threads of the studs.
It will kinda "click" into place. sometimes helps to have someone kinda work the back end while you are lining the front. The HD gaskets do effect things a bit as said until they tighten down.
Two people can definitely be helpful. Sometimes it is just not hanging right and that second set of hands makes all the difference with it lining right up. I am assuming you have the bike on the side stand and are trying to do this on the ground?
Yeah Joe its on the side stand. I got a buddy thats gonna give me a hand tomorrow. My biggest concern is that is seems when I put the new gaskets in it doesnt leave any room for the pipe in the exhaust port. I got the flange on the studs but like I said it starting way out seems like a long way to push gasket to get flange flush.
Yea If you use NEW Harley gaskets it will seem there is not much thread there.
Just get them started and snug them up and torque them
do a couple heat sinks and then recheck them!!
