When Harley services the bike it is standing straight up on lift, not on the jiffy stand, so while i didn't take the pictures in question, what i observed was the same level as shown on the pictures and bike was standing straight up.

Someone correct me if I am wrong , engine oil and transmission fluid are to be checked when on the "jiffy stand" , primary fluid level check when the bike is standing level. I believe that applies to changing of the fluids as well, engine and tranny on the jiffy stand and primary while level. G

On my 2014 Limited my manual says add 3 qts oil & check it, then add more if needed.

Buy 2 quarts, put the partial on your shelf, you'll only need to buy 1 for the next 4 changes.

Ok, I must have missed something here or misunderstood your post. How do you figure you will only need to buy 1 quart for the next 4 changes since you will be using 38 ounces for each change? Did you make a mistake in the post? Just curious.

I believe his meaning was you only need to buy 1 EXTRA quart for the next 4 changes. Still have to buy the base quart each time.

Interesting how post 6 and 8 are truly different. However, it probably does not matter. However, it does say bottom of diaphragm spring. You really cannot get a picture of it like in post 6. Sure half the mechanics do it different. Post 6 is at the top of the spring.. Least on mine, it only needs 28 oz. (what older service manuals said) to the bottom of the black spring and it will take way more then 4 ozs. more to get it as high as post 6. Ten more ozs. for a total of 38 ozs. might. However, two quarts will get it up in the window since mine was accidentally filled up by a well meaning buddy as I worked on the other side. He ask me were the transmission oil was.? Ha.. When I look closely at post 6, it actually almost looks like the oil is on the V of the window. If so, it has 64 oz of oil in it. Is the derby cover opening bigger on a 2014?

Just so we're comparing apples to apples here, I did a little research, on the '14 FLHTK it says for a change add 38 oz.'s, on some of the earlier Tourers it says add 32 oz.'s, maybe that's where the confusion is.

I think the confusion is a lot of people are hung up on a numerical measurement, instead of just filling the primary by a visual indicator that it's at the proper level.

For the record, I don't use a numerical measured quantity when adding engine or transmission oil either, I use the visual method of where on the dipstick the oil is.
