Still clunks going into first like all HDs do.
Mine doesn't clunk much, if any, going into neutral or any other shift (so "all" of them don't do it). That's because I ditched the auto adjuster and installed a Baker Attitude Adjuster. The loud first gear clunk instantly disappeared. The reason for the clunk is that the auto-tensioner runs the chain so tight that the clutch bearings are bound up and trying to drive the tranny even with the clutch disengaged.

Did you have to pull the compensator?

Yes, but there wasn't any drama involved.

There's a Hayden unit that's said to work well and you don't have to pull the comp to install it, but I've never used one.

I know this sounds like a dealer talking but every Harley I have ever owned made a clunk going into first. That's not a problem.

My '94 Dyna and my and my '15 limited sometimes don't clunk at all going from neutral to first when just started from cold, and it's MUCH quieter than before when they're at op temp.

Redline tranny and primary lubes in both, along with manually-adjusted chain tensioners in both (now).
