Default A somber note

My wife and I just finished a 10 day 3,400 mile trip to BC and back, we both ride. Just 20 miles from our home traffic was backed up on route 191 and we had to wait for Life Flight to pick up a rider who went down in a corner. I don't know the circumstances of the accident.

Riding past the scene and seeing the bike, the other riders in the his group talking to the HP is a stark reminder of how quickly things can change.

Ride Safe

Corners and curves are the #1 in single vehicle motorcycle accidents. Don't know the circumstances of that accident, but many riders enter corners/curves at speeds beyond their skill level and/or the bikes cornering clearance. Just because the riders in front of you made the curve doesn't mean you can. Know your limits and always ride below that level. Hope the rider comes through ok.

Yes as Clint Eastwood once said, a mans got to know his limitations. Most of the time I ride solo without the tourpac and I'm use to pushing the limit. But loaded with my wife and traveling it's a total diferant animal, I even find my aditude is diferant, I look at it as another driver could hurt my wife. My senses are on high alert and take nothing for granted, if I hurt myself is one thing but if I hurt my wife it would be devastating.

I totally get what you are saying,, I am an Assistant fire chief for a very large rural fire department,,,, Quite often I ride my street glide right to the scene,,,

Its a very eerie feeling going to a Motorcycle wreck while riding. I want to Rush to get there as fast as possible to help everyone but it sure does make me think it could be me.. ( it was me about 4 years ago, My daughter and I got run over while stopped at a stop sign by an old guy in a cage that didn't want to wait any longer)

Bikes are fun freedom is great but we got to keep our heads on a swivel and our senses on high alert.

Stay Safe and keep the shiny side up

I hope the rider survived. In the back of my mind, I'm always reminded how quickly things can change when I'm out riding because I, as I'm sure several HDForum members have, lost friends from motorcycle accidents. It's something I don't like to think about and it's something I don't openly talk about with other riders, but it's always there every time I swing my leg over the seat. It's a chance we all take willingly because we love riding.

Well said.

The Salt Lake news reported:

UINTAH COUNTY — A motorcycle accident in eastern Utah sent two riders to the hospital Sunday afternoon.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, a motorcycle was traveling southbound on state Route 191 about 13 miles north of Vernal, Utah, at approximately 1:47 p.m. when the driver, a 53-year-old male from Indiana, was unable to negotiate a sharp curve causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash.
The driver was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries. He was flown to the hospital via medical helicopter.
The passenger, a 57-year-old Indiana woman, suffered a broken leg and road rash. She was wearing a helmet. She was taken by ambulance from the scene to a nearby hospital.
The highway was shut down for about an hour while UHP investigated the scene. It does not appear alcohol was a factor in the incident.

I went to the Hospital today to see if I could offer any help to the women who was injured or the others in the group but I was told she was also transferred to SLC.
