Must have been a Trike thing or something because it's never been required on two wheel models as far as I know or have experienced.
No need for brakes on to start my Limited. Have to either put shifter in neutral, or pull clutch in.

Nope, with the stand down, it should start if it's in neutral OR The clutch is pulled.

On domestic models, there isn't any kind of switch on the side stand.
